Qigong Healing Therapy
Qi or Chi (氣 气), “life force” or “energy that sustains living beings”, is believed to flow through the human body. The Chinese consider all illnesses, both physical and mental, as a result from irregularity in the flow of Qi. In a healthy person, Qi flows along the Qi meridians freely and smoothly. When Qi becomes imbalanced, disease and illness begin to take form. Traditional Chinese medicine, one of the oldest medical disciplines in the world, strives to keep the flow of Qi balanced, increases the levels of Qi and make sure that the Qi remains strong. Treatments are, therefore, aimed to find and correct the source of the imbalance.
In respect to the onset of body aches and pains associated with the aging process, Chinese doctors may attribute that to Qi blockages caused by old injuries. For example, a senior citizen’s constant ache and stiffness in his knee would be explained in the West as possibly caused by the “bum knee tore in high school during the football game." A Western doctor would usually tell this old man to take Ibuprofen or Aspirin to ease the pain. A Chinese doctor would say that the knee was mostly healed and that it worked fine while the man was young when his Qi flow was still strong. However, now that he is old, his Qi flow is slower and that it gets stuck at the site of his old injury. Treatments would be prescribed to strengthen the Qi and improve the Qi flow. One way of strengthening the Qi and improving the Qi flow is through the practice of Qigong.
Qigong is an ancient art of cultivating Qi. With guidance and practice, Qi energy can be emanated from a Qigong practitioner for destructive or healing purposes. Emitting Qi energy for healing is the essence of Qi healing, which is also known as Qigong treatment, external Qigong, external Qi treatment, and Qi therapy.
Qi healing is a gentle way of getting healthy. Qi treatments balance the Qi strength and flow. Once the Qi is in harmony, the body is awakened to recognize the areas of the body that need attention. Qi then facilitates the body’s innate healing mechanisms to nurture these areas of the body to become healthier.
In a typical Qi healing session, Qi flow, Qi strength and Qi blockages are first evaluated by the healer. Then during the actual healing, Qi is transferred from the healer’s hand to the receiver to increase Qi strength, drive away negative Qi, unblock Qi stagnation and direct Qi flow. Acupressure and healing aides are also used to facilitate the restoration of the proper Qi flow, and will be prescribed to individuals for them to help maintain the proper Qi flow.
